Mehreen S. Sherwani counsels domestic and international clients in commercial and financial transactions, such as secured loan transactions and business purchase transactions, securities offerings, as well as commercial litigation. Since joining Lowis & Gellen, she has handled a number of significant transactions, including drafting asset and stock purchase agreements, preparing loan documentation, preparing detailed private offering documentation, and drafting various corporate governance documents.

Ms. Sherwani recently assisted in the sale of 100% of a railroad company’s stock to another publicly-traded railroad company for $90.1 million in cash. She assisted in all aspects of the transaction from facilitating our client’s due diligence compliance to drafting key sale documents to ensuring post-closing compliance.

Ms. Sherwani is also a seasoned appellate attorney and handles both commercial and medical malpractice appeals for our clients. She works closely with the firm’s trial attorneys in the preparation of substantive and dispositive motions, motions in limine, evidentiary issues, and arguments before the trial court for purposes of posturing legal issues and creating a complete record for subsequent appellate review. Ms. Sherwani handles all aspects of the post-trial and appellate process and works closely with clients to examine potential procedural and legal issues and provide in depth evaluations of court rulings and the potential success of an appeal.

Prior to joining the firm, Ms. Sherwani served as law clerk to the Honorable Justice Thomas E. Hoffman in the Appellate Court (First District). She is a 1998 graduate of Chicago-Kent College of Law. She received her bachelor’s degree in public affairs, with a certificate in business and a minor in Spanish, from Indiana University.

Ms. Sherwani’s background brings an interesting dimension to her legal practice. Having gown up in Pakistan, Iran, and Mexico, she is fluent in Spanish and conversationally fluent in Urdu and Hindi. Ms. Sherwani is actively involved in developing cross border relationships with our international clients. She is a member of the British American Business Council in Chicago and, joined the law firm of Norton Rose LLP for a month as a visiting attorney to better serve our clients based in the United Kingdom.
