FOCUS

Deborah O達rien has an extensive and varied litigation practice. She has successfully handled matters throughout the country in state and federal trial and appellate courts, and before a number of administrative agencies including the EEOC and the Illinois Department of Human Rights. With more than 12 years of trial preparation and courtroom experience, Ms. O達rien has tried several cases to verdict, has obtained many dismissals and summary judgments, and has negotiated numerous favorable settlements on behalf of her clients.

Ms. O達rien represents corporations and municipalities with respect to a wide variety of matters involving contractual disputes, labor and employment matters, civil rights claims and claims of negligence and premises liability. She has also represented various clients in intellectual property disputes including trademark/tradename infringement, unfair competition and right of publicity claims. In addition, Ms. O達rien has successfully pursued and defended numerous civil appeals involving a broad range of issues.

PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITIES

Ms. O達rien is a member of the state bars in Florida and Illinois. She is also admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida, and the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois and its trial bar. In addition, she is a member of the Seminole County Bar Association. She has served as a moot court judge in competitions sponsored by the Chicago Bar Association and IIT/Chicago-Kent College of Law, and as a mentor to Kent students. She has also tutored students confined to the Chicago Juvenile Detention Center through a program sponsored by the Chicago Bar Association.

EDUCATION

Ms. O達rien received her B.S. in Business Administration with high honors from the University of Florida. She received her J.D. from IIT/Chicago-Kent College of Law, where she graduated with honors. While in law school, Ms. O達rien served as a judicial extern to the Honorable Charles R. Norgle in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. She was also active in the Kent Moot Court Society, and served as a Moot Court Associate Justice.
