FOCUS

Deborah O達rien currently focuses her practice on appeals pending in the state and federal courts. She also has considerable trial court experience, and has successfully tried numerous cases to verdict including those arising from catastrophic injury, intellectual property rights and claims of municipal liability. Ms. O達rien heads up Lowis & Gellen痴 Orlando Florida office.

Ms. O達rien痴 areas of practice include the defense of medical malpractice and other catastrophic injury cases. She also represents corporations and municipalities with respect to a wide variety of matters including contractual disputes, labor and employment, civil rights, negligence and premises liability. She is also experienced in construction litigation, and has represented various clients in intellectual property disputes including trademark/tradename infringement, unfair competition and right of publicity claims.

PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITIES

Ms. O達rien is a member of the state and federal bars in Florida and Illinois. She is a member of the Chicago Bar Association, and the Seminole and Orange County Florida Bar Associations. She has served as a moot court judge in competitions sponsored by the Chicago Bar Association and IIT/Chicago-Kent College of Law, and as a mock trial judge in competitions sponsored by the FLREA. Ms. O達rien has also served as a mentor to Kent law students. She has also tutored students confined to the Chicago Juvenile Detention Center through a program sponsored by the Chicago Bar Association. Additionally, Ms. O達rien served as a volunteer on the Florida Voting Rights Legal Team during the 2008 general election, and currently chairs one of Seminole County痴 School Advisory Councils.

EDUCATION

Ms. O達rien obtained her B.S. in Business Administration with High Honors from the University of Florida. She received her J.D. from IIT/Chicago-Kent College of Law, where she graduated with Honors. While in law school, Ms. O達rien served as a judicial extern to the Honorable Charles R. Norgle in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. She was also active in the Kent Moot Court Society, and served as a Moot Court Associate Justice.
