QUALIFICATIONS

Ms. Gellen is one of the founding partners of the firm and has been a member of the bar since 1976. She has a wealth of experience in litigation, primarily in the defense of medical practice and medical products cases, as well as in commercial litigation in the state and federal courts including a number of jury trials.

Chicago Lawyer magazine named Ms. Gellen one of Chicago's top twenty tort defense lawyers, and she has been selected repeatedly as an Illinois "Super Lawyer" and a “Leading Lawyer.”

Ms. Gellen has a special interest in alternative dispute resolution (ADR). Trained as a mediator through Loyola University School of Law Institute for Health Law, she is a court certified mediator for the Circuit Court of Cook County and has acted as mediator and advocate in ADR.

PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITIES

Ms. Gellen is a litigator, concentrating her efforts in the defense of medical malpractice and medical product liability cases as well as commercial litigation. She has tried cases in state and federal courts and has participated in the defense of multi-district litigation, class actions and other mass tort litigation. She has argued appeals in state and federal court. She is admitted to practice in Illinois, Michigan, New York and the Northern and Central Districts of Illinois. Ms. Gellen is a member of the Federal Trial Bar.

She is a member of the Chicago Bar Association, the Defense Research Institute and the Illinois Association of Defense Council. She is also a member of the Illinois Association of Healthcare Attorneys and of the Chicago Trial Lawyers.

Ms. Gellen has lectured widely on legal matters and has participated in panel discussions sponsored by medical, legal and risk management groups throughout the Chicago area, including for the Illinois Association of Hospital Attorneys, Loyola University School of Law Institute for Health Law, and the Association of Law and Medicine. She has been a guest lecture in Fred Lane's Trial Advocacy course, and at Kent Law School. She has been a faculty member of the Illinois Defense Counsel Trial Advocacy College. She has given surgical and medical Grand Rounds at several area hospitals.

EDUCATION

Ms. Gellen received an A.B. degree with honors from Vassar College, and a J.D. from Albany Law School, Union University, New York. Her last year of law school was completed at the University of Michigan Law School in Ann Arbor.
