FOCUS

Ms. DeZutti is an associate attorney with Lowis & Gellen. Her primary practice area is assisting physicians and hospitals in the defense of complex medical malpractice claims.

Prior to joining the firm in the Spring of 2004 she worked for several years in medical malpractice and commercial defense, as well as contract, employment, and personal injury law on behalf of plaintiffs. She has represented health care providers, banking institutions, and individuals. Ms. DeZutti has authored several Appellate Court Briefs and an Illinois Supreme Court brief on municipal issues. Earlier in her career, Ms. DeZutti was a medical and dental malpractice plaintiff’s attorney.

Ms. DeZutti has extensive trial experience, both in the criminal and civil sectors. During her tenure at Lowis & Gellen, she has second-chaired several trials, representing both hospitals and physicians. All of these trials resulted in defense verdicts. Ms. DeZutti also provides pro bono services for youths charged with criminal offenses in Cook and Will Counties.

Ms. DeZutti provides continuing education seminars to hospital clients, most recently for nurses at Loyola Gottlieb Memorial Hospital and Ingalls Memorial Hospital. These seminars have included topics ranging from general medical liability, electronic and paper charting, chain-of-command, communication, preventing medication errors and surgical issues. Ms. DeZutti has also presented at grand rounds for urology residents at UIC.

Ms. DeZutti is a member of the American Bar Association and Chicago Bar Association. While in law school at DePaul University, Ms. DeZutti interned with the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office in the Felony Trial Division assisting in over 30 weapons, narcotics and burglary bench trials. All but one of these trials resulted in a guilty verdict. Ms. DeZutti also presented the State’s case and negotiated sentencing at over 50 plea-bargain conferences. While at DePaul, Ms. DeZutti extensively researched blood spatter analysis and international criminal extradition laws, authoring seminar dissertations on these subjects.

Ms. DeZutti is a member of the American Bar Association and Chicago Bar Association. EDUCATION

Ms. DeZutti received her J.D. from DePaul University College of Law in Chicago, Illinois in June of 1998. She received her undergraduate degrees in psychology and sociology of law from Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana in June of 1995. While at Purdue, Ms. DeZutti was a Dean’s List recipient, as well as a member of Alpha Kappa Delta and Psi Phi, both national honors fraternities.
